The numbers speak for themselves. In the heart of “Music City,” prospective students will find in Vanderbilt University an academic institution that combines its 50 degree programs and 5 Nobel laureates on staff with nearly 400 different student organizations and a coveted spot in the SEC, the country’s most prestigious athletic conference. It is a haven for those who are looking to maximize their collegiate experiences both personally and academically en route to rich and fulfilling careers focused on a range of disciplines and industries.
It is also a great place to play hockey.
The VU Hockey Experience
The Vanderbilt Commodores Ice Hockey team is a DIII men’s club program affiliated with the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) and the Southeastern Collegiate Hockey Conference (SECHC). Founded in 1991, VU hockey maintains a distinct personality relative to the other clubs in the southeast region in that the students are largely responsible for managing the program. We boil the approach down to a simple motto: The club runs the club.
To help the team’s officers in their program planning pursuits, a host of dedicated faculty advisers and parent sponsors have been slated to offer guidance away from the rink while a staff of coaches has been enlisted to ensure organization on the ice. As evidenced by events such as this year’s Inaugural I-40 Face-Off, our club’s annual tilt versus the Tennessee Volunteers to be played at Bridgestone Arena (home of the Nashville Predators), we pride ourselves on running a tightly organized program that also focuses on having an awesome time playing hockey. While we are all about winning, especially after posting a 14-3-1 record this past 2010/11 season, we are above all else committed to having as much fun as any club in the Southeast, hockey or otherwise.
